The Abel Augustus Bristol Teacher Training College is the international arm of The Anna Julia Cooper Initiative. It was developed for the specific purpose of proposing a new and enterprising partnership with Guyana’s Ministry of Education and National Accreditation Council for developing a teacher training academy on the West Coast of Berbice. Its purpose is to train, coach, and mentor the next generation of ethical and global educational visionaries who will be aptly prepared to deliver exceptional twenty-first century primary and secondary level instruction throughout Guyana and beyond.

Likewise, its mission is to produce a full-scale tertiary teacher training academy that prepares both undergraduate and graduate level students for dynamic careers in the teaching profession through culturally relevant pedagogical as well as andragogical training, coaching, and mentoring with a specialized focus on Special Education, Arts Integration, Early Childhood Education, K-12 Literacy, Critical Educational Theory,  and Global Citizenship Education.
